Here at Vested, we often say our team is our greatest asset. Our people are smart, passionate, involved, kind, funny, and interesting, and we want to share them with you! In our series Vested Interests, we’re spotlighting Vesties around the world, sharing what they’re reading, who they’re listening to, where they’re eating, and everything in between.
Today, we’re hearing from Marte Eggleston, Vested Account Manager based in Los Angeles, California.
What book are you reading? Or any recent favorites?
I’ve been in a constant state of finishing the book, Braiding Sweetgrass by botanist and Potawatomi author Robin Wall Kimmerer. It’s a wonderful exploration of the lessons we can learn from the natural world around us and how to apply them in our day-to-day experiences.Â
What about newsletters, industry/work related or otherwise?
Working in and out of the tech and fintech space, newsletters have become an increasingly crucial part of getting in front of that audience. Kiah Haslet’s new banking-focused newsletter for Fintech Takes has been a new addition to the scene! I also enjoy Fortune’s Most Powerful Women daily newsletter, highlighting great female-led work across the industry – always inspiring!Â
I would be remiss not to highlight Hunter Harris’s Substack newsletter, Hung Up, which never fails to make me laugh out loud. Her keen eye on celebrity culture is sharp and always witty.Â
What podcasts are you listening to?
I am constantly oscillating between NPR’s suite of podcasts and everything under The Ringer’s banner. I take pride in knowing a little bit about everything, which has turned out to be a professional superpower!Â
Favorite outdoor activity, workout, or hobby?
Fortunately, living in Los Angeles allows me to enjoy the great outdoors most days of the year, whether that’s on a neighborhood stroll or a dedicated hike. I recently spent time in Joshua Tree National Park, which is equally beautiful and otherworldly.Â
What’s your work superpower?
Remaining calm, cool and collected. Whether the team is strategizing over an important announcement or capitalizing on a breaking newsjacking opportunity, it can feel like everything must be done instantly and all at once. It’s important to have someone who can break down what needs to be done and quarterback (my term) the process. Keeps everyone on the same page and working toward a common goal!Â
Any restaurants (or cafes, coffee shops, etc.) that you’ve been to and loved? Local favorites?
You could go somewhere new in LA every day for a year and barely scratch the surface of the restaurant scene, but some recent highlights have been Cobi’s in Santa Monica and Marugame Monzo in Little Tokyo.Â
How did you find your way to Vested?
All the credit goes to Sarah Richter! We were fortunate to have worked together at a previous agency in Chicago, and when Sarah found herself at Vested, after a few months, she knew Vested and I would be a perfect fit! I can’t say enough about how much I’ve grown since joining the agency, and the opportunities that have come my way.Â
Any favorite holiday traditions?
Growing up and to this day, my family always cuts down a tree, so a tree that comes out of a box was a foreign concept to me for a very long time. But I’ve always enjoyed the art of choosing the tree every year, decorating with our favorite ornaments. Though the fresh Christmas tree smell may be the best perk!Â
What’s your go-to coffee order?
My tried and true is an iced (always) vanilla latte with whatever milk I’m feeling for the day. One thing I’ve come to love is a ube latte – the perfect slightly sweet experience.Â
Do you have any hobbies or new skills you’re learning?
Having never been a natural at arts and crafts, I am trying to finish a crochet project that was supposedly meant for ages 7+. I’m sure one of these days it will click!Â
What’s your most-used emoji or Slack reaction?Â
