A Day in the Life of an Account Executive At Vested
7:30 AM
My day kicks off with a brisk walk to the station, embracing the familiar hustle and bustle of the London commute. I usually spend this time plugged into the Financial Times Morning News Briefing. It’s the perfect way to get my brain into gear, activating PR mode early doors as I absorb the headlines. This is swiftly followed by breakfast from Pret – I know I should be meal prepping but it’s too good!Â
8:45 AM
Fuelled and informed, I set up at my desk and dive into a deeper scan of the news. I’m looking for coverage of our clients as well as anything relevant in the wider media – a new announcement, a major report, fresh regulation, or even a subtle shift in market sentiment. This early scan helps me flag coverage and spot immediate media opportunities.
10:00 AM
With the news digested, my emails read, and my Slacks responded to, I jump onto a client call. These meetings provide valuable time for strategising and discussing business updates, current national news stories and proactive pitching. After the call, I write up the actions to keep us accountable.Â
12:00 PM
It’s lunchtime, and my colleague and I head to meet with a journalist. These face-to-face meetings are a crucial part of building strong relationships in the media world, offering a chance to move beyond an email exchange.
Over lunch, we discuss upcoming articles and share insights about our clients. It’s a two-way street – we’ll provide them with information that’s relevant to their beat, and we’ll gain valuable intel on what the publication is looking for. It’s a chance to build trust and ensure we’re always top-of-mind when they’re looking for an expert in the relevant field.
2:00 PM
Now I’m back at my desk after the journalist lunch, I write a note to share the media intel with the team. This includes practical information like how and when they like to be pitched, as well as what they’re most interested in, how they like to work and where we might be able to contribute to their articles moving forwards.Â
4:00 PM:
I tune into a VestED call, our weekly education session. Today’s topic is the different financial markets. As an account executive, early in my career, these sessions are absolutely invaluable. They give me the knowledge I need to understand my clients’ businesses and the broader industry.
6:00 PM
Before logging off, I check my priorities for the next day to ensure that I can hit the ground running. I then begin the commute home to get some rest before another productive day!Â
