Key Takeaways from StackAdapt’s Conversion Conference

Reimagining the Agency-Client AI Relationship

I recently attended StackAdapt’s Conversion Conference in Austin, Texas, joining industry leaders to explore a pivotal shift: the fundamental transformation of the agency model through AI. The core of our discussion focused on how agencies can move beyond the hype to provide consistent, high-impact value to their clients.

At Vested, we are dedicated to responsible transformation, leveraging AI to reshape our go-to-market strategy, how we operate the business, and serve our clients more effectively.

Start Small, Think Big

The biggest mistake agencies make is trying to implement AI across the entire organization at once. Instead, the better approach is to deploy focused pilots on specific problems, prove value quickly, and scale what works.

For clients, this matters because it means agencies aren’t overcomplicating things or promising silver-bullet solutions. Identifying where AI can create real impact in marketing and communications work — whether that’s faster creative testing, automating repetitive tasks,  generating smarter audience insights, or more strategic scenario planning — and proving it works before scaling it is the responsible approach. It’s how agencies deliver measurable results, not hype.

Outcomes Over Efficiency

Yes, AI makes us more efficient, which impacts how we hire and staff accounts. But efficiency is merely an output, not an outcome. Yes, AI enables us to save money. Still, more importantly, it enables us to deliver better results for clients, bring new products and services to market, and deepen our strategic relationships with them.  For clients, this means more conversions, smarter campaigns, and more compelling stories.

That shift matters because it reframes what AI is used for and the value it can deliver to agencies and their clients. When agencies think about AI this way, clients get smarter thinking, faster execution, and measurable business impact.

You Need Clean Data and a Strategy

AI isn’t magic. It needs good information to work with, expert prompts, and a clear purpose. Winning agencies are investing in understanding their data, organizing it properly, and being intentional about how they deploy AI tools to mine it.

It is not about bolting AI onto existing work as a tool to do things faster. Instead, it’s looking at the entire communications ecosystem — the data available, the business goals, the challenges to solve — and strategically integrating AI into that system to scale, enhance, and invent new ways of working together. That rigor is what turns AI into something that actually moves the needle for client business outcomes.

Talent at the Core

Entry-level marketing work is disappearing. Tasks such as deck building, report writing, and administrative work are being automated. But that’s not bad news, it’s an opportunity. The switch means bringing in people who are proficient with AI systems, adapt quickly, and build lasting client relationships. We’re training people differently at Vested, hiring for different skills, and creating career paths that pave the way to meaningful, strategic work faster.

For clients, this matters because it means better talent focused on strategy instead of process. When agencies invest in people who can think critically and partner strategically, clients get smarter thinking and more strategic work, not just task execution.

Leveling the Playing Field

AI is the ultimate equalizer, enabling smaller independent agencies to compete with larger players, not on scale or footprint, but on talent, speed, and strategy. From competing in multi-faceted RFPs to delivering world-class results for clients, agencies — even those with smaller teams — must now leverage AI to sit at the table as strategic advisors, not service providers. When AI handles tactical, repetitive work, agencies have time to understand each client’s business, identify real challenges, and solve meaningful problems. That’s where true partnership — and real value — lives.

The AI revolution isn’t about replacing people or cutting costs. It’s about being smarter, more strategic, and more focused on what actually matters: delivering real results for clients. That’s the approach we’re taking at Vested, and it’s driving meaningful impact for the clients we serve.
